Aquarium Technician Position

Aquatic Reef Design is accepting resumes for the position of Aquarium Service Technician.  Aquatic Reef Design is located in Ocala, FL and provides aquarium maintenance services to Ocala and surrounding area.  We were established in 2016 and have continued to grow year after year.  Our continued growth is the reason we are hiring an additional aquarium service technician.  We offer full   or part time with a flexible schedule.

Customer Service

Strong communication skills are essential to being successful in this position, both in with regards to daily interactions with aquarium service clients as well as the follow of information within the organization.  As an example, every day you should expect to review the previous day’s aquarium service maintenance appointments to discuss the aquarium service in detail; overall aquarium condition, water chemistry test results, client concerns or wants, any current issues that need to be addressed, future potential issues and forward-thinking strategies specific to each client with the owner.  Our goal is to give our clients the highest level of satisfaction therefore each aquarium maintenance service visit gets reviewed and discussed between the aquarium service technician and the owner to ensure aquarium are maintained to Aquatic Reef Design standards.

Being a Service Technician is hard work!

  • The daily tasks performed as an aquarium service technician is physically hard work.  Water is heavy 8.35 pounds per gallon, a full 5-gallon water jug weighs 41.75 pounds. Everyday as a service technician, you will be moving water while performing water changes at each aquarium maintenance service visit.  Sometimes we use 5-gallon jugs on small freshwater aquarium service visits or sometimes we pump the water from a service vehicle when performing saltwater maintenance service on large commercial or residential aquariums. Scraping algae off the glass with an algae magnet is hard repetitive job.  You have to be able to bend over into aquariums to hydro vac the substrate during water changes and adjust aqua-scaping.

The applicant must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities without supervision. You must be able to stay on task and be self-motivated with a high degree of attention to detail. Have a strong ability in problem solving, fixing aquarium systems and working with your hands. You must be mechanically inclined, interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests. You must be comfortable and proficient working on your own, unsupervised and must maintain the highest respect for our clients throughout Ocala and surrounding  area.

Responsibilities: You MUST have the ability to;

  • Travel to job site.
  • Perform maintenance services on established client aquariums.
  • Perform water quality testing
  • Perform health assessments on all living organisms within the aquarium.
  • Perform water changes and filtration component cleaning.
  • Assess the overall aquarium display and the LSS to ensure proper long term operation.
  • Trouble shoot flow issues and water delivery issues.
  • Perform data entry and accurate record keeping
  • Perform other duties assigned by management

 

Physical Requirements: You MUST have the ability to;

  • Be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Be able to bend or twist your body in order to work in tight spaces.

 

Abilities, knowledge and skills: You MUST possess;

  • Excellent organizational skills and a great work ethic.
  • Respect for client’s residence and space.
  • Experience in all types of aquarium displays (reef, salt water, fresh water live plants, etc)
  • Experience with growing corals.
  • Problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Experience in plumbing and working with PVC
  • Experience in plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of salt and fresh water aquatic systems.
  • Knowledge of filtration systems.
  • Maintain a good driving record and a valid drivers license.
